Congratulations to Foo Fighters on being nominated for six Grammy's this year. Pretty good for an album recorded in a garage. Here are the categories: ALBUM OF THE YEAR – WASTING LIGHT. Competing against Adele and Lady Gaga, I'm not sure how good of a shot they've got at this one. BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE – “WALK”. "Performance" means "song" and they are competing against Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, the Decemberists and Radio Head, there is stiff competition, but not a bad chance. BEST HARD ROCK PERFORMANCE – “WHITE LIMO”. Others in this category are Mastedon, Megadeth, Sum 41 and Dream Theater. White Limo is a great, hard rock song and I think the Foo's have a good chance at this although I'm not sure they really should win. Yes they should. It's Hard Rock, not Heavy Metal. BEST ROCK SONG – “WALK”. Not sure why this is different than Best Rock Performance. I must admit I don't understand these categories. BEST ROCK ALBUM – WASTING LIGHT. Others nominated here are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings of Leon, Wilco and Jeff Beck. BEST LONG FORM MUSIC VIDEO – FOO FIGHTERS: BACK & FORTH. So anyway, Dave Grohl beat me and got nominated for a bunch of Grammy's. Good for him. 2 Comments Foo Fighters. Joan Jett. David Letterman. 11/16/2011
Foo Fighters were on David Letterman last night. Again. When I saw the tweets yesterday that they were playing last night with Joan Jett, my first thought was, "Awesome, I'll check that out tomorrow on the internet!" That is way past my bedtime. As always, Letterman had some very nice things to say: "These people have affected my life in many delightful ways and I'll always be grateful for those lovely influences. So my thanks to the Foo Fighters." Who talks like that? So here's a bit of trivia for you. David Letterman had the Foo Fighters play his first show after having open heart surgery and if I remember correctly (Editor's note: due to budget cuts the fact-checkers for this website were recently laid off ) Letterman said, "It's my pleasure to have my favorite band, playing my favorite song. Ladies and gentlemen...Foo Fighters!" Then they played a song. I now have a spur of the moment idea for a CONTEST. Seriously, I did not think of this before writing this post. Come to think of it, I didn't even think of writing this post before writing this post. Living on the edge, baby. Living on the edge. Okay, back to that exciting contest I just thought of: The first person who can name the song in the comments section below that the Foo Fighters played on Letterman's first show after open heart surgery will receive a digital copy of our new album that is coming out (soon, oh so soon). So here is the video from last night's Letterman show. (If this video gets taken down, the whole episode can be found at http://www.cbs.com/late_night/late_show/video/?pid=rkBt_7d5XpIanQeen2XGGHOEvwSViOZy) Welcome back. Joan's voice is sounding great I thought. I also got confused because when I heard that they were playing Bad Reputation, I was thinking they were doing their version of Bad Reputation by Thin Lizzy that's on their covers album. But then I was like, oh yeah, Joan Jett wrote a song with the same title. That makes more sense now. Sometimes I am an idiot. So the Foos can add yet another cover to their repertoire. I read an interview recently and guitarist Pat Smear said that they are the only band he knows of who will learn a cover song and then play it in front of 55,000 people an hour later. Or live on TV for millions of viewers. And still sound great. I hate Dave Grohl. Check it: if the video doesn't play, try this link: http://teamcoco.com/video/foo-fighters-dear-rosemary Dave Grohl Songwriting Lessons 08/19/2011
I ran across these videos this week that were especially fun for me as a songwriter and guitarist to get a glimpse of the process behind how Dave Grohl writes Foo Fighters songs. Enjoy. Foo Fighters start at 16:44. For a great review of the show and first hand account of what it was like to be there, check out this post: http://www.antiquiet.com/news/2011/08/foo-fighters-lollapalooza/ Hey, the Foo Fighters just released their film documenting the "Garage Tour" they did earlier this year. Check it out. Dave Grohl Stole My Video Idea 06/02/2011
So in my mind (where no one can see and I can prove nothing) I had an idea for a video for our song American Man inspired by and somewhat paying tribute to, the movie Falling Down starring Michael Douglas. A video where I would be dressed in a white, short sleeve button down shirt, black tie and horn rimmed glasses. I hadn't fully fleshed this idea out in my mind, but it would also include driving an old, American car of some sort and end by playing in a rock and roll band. Then today I watched the new Foo Fighters video for the song Walk. Watch it below. I am actually somewhat wierded out by the whole thing. My video will look like I am trying to copy the Foo Fighters. Now I really hate Dave Grohl. Tags: Foo Fighters, Music, More Music Videos Here is the new music video from the Foo Fighters. Directed by Dave Grohl himself and shot on VHS tape. This is a performance type video and not a funny one. For that you can watch White Limo. Here's the thing. Last night Dave & Co. drove to a fans house in their real life white limo, live on MTV, popped the video cassette into the first VCR ever made and did the whole "world premiere" thing. You want to know what I was doing at the very same moment last night? Probably not, I know, but I'm gonna tell you anyway because this is my blog. I was at Disney Princess On Ice. How very rock 'n roll. Hey, it was for a special occasion for our daughter. But I took consolation in the fact that Dave Grohl, being the good dad he is said to be, would have done the same. So while I don't have any world premiere video events or television interviews for you today, enjoy the video from someone who does. I hate that guy. The world premiere of the Foo Fighter's first single, "Rope", off their new album occurred yesterday at 7AM EST. It's a bold choice for a first single; odd time signatures, breathy vocals in the verses, big catchy chorus, plus the sickest guitar solo on a Foo Fighters album yet. Bravo, Mr. Grohl and Company, bravo. Here's the link: http://rope.foofighters.com/ In my efforts to Beat Dave Grohl, I hereby release the first "single" off of our new album too. Okay, it was already released on an EP, but it will be on the new album and you can hear it below. It also is a bold choice for a first single I would like to point out. I know, most people wouldn't choose a slow tempo, slightly depressing song inspired by the sad state of Michigan's economy as the first single to their mostly uptempo country punk album, but Brother Howe is not most people. Nor are we most people's favorite band for that matter (editors note: there might be a connection there). And so dear readers, without further ado, I present to you the first single off our forthcoming album: Hard To Find ps - I dedicate this song to Jeff Daniels, who's love of our home state inspired my brother to write an award nominated screenplay, which then inspired me to write this song. I also would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Mr. Daniels for trying to pitch him on said screenplay on February 5th of this year. The Foo Fighters announced yesterday that the name of their new album is...Wasting Light. What a minute... What is Dave Grohl trying to say to me here? That I'm wasting my LIFE? Doesn't he think I already know that I'm toiling my life away while he gets to live the dream version of it? Does he have to go ahead and rub my nose in it by naming his entire album after me? Well, I will have you know, Mr. Dave Grohl, that I am not wasting my life no matter what you say. I guess we all realize that the hate goes two ways, though now doesn't it? But why do I somehow, deep inside, also feel slightly honored? And at the same time, because of that, deeply ashamed? Oh wait, the name of the album is Wasting Light? What does that mean? Aaaah, I hate Dave Grohl. Here's a repost of the press release from Gibson.com: Foo Fighters have named their new album. The band’s seventh studio record will be titled Wasting Light and will be available on April 12. The lead single for the new effort by Dave Grohl and company will be “Rope.” Producer Butch Vig helmed the sessions for the album, which was recorded in Grohl’s garage. The album features a mini-Nirvana reunion. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic guests on Wasting Light, which, of course, features former Nirvana drummer Grohl and Nevermind producer Vig. The Foos recently released a video for album track “White Limo.” Wasting Light tracklisting: 1. “Bridge Burning” 2. “Rope” 3. “Dear Rosemary” 4. “White Limo” 5. “Arlandria” 6. “These Days” 7. “Back & Forth” 8. “A Matter of Time” 9. “Miss the Misery” 10. “I Should Have Known” 11. “Walk” | Welcome to the most pathetic fan site ever.Hi! Editor's Note: Before leaving a profanity laced comment full of grammar and spelling errors telling me to get a life, that I'm a loser, that Dave Grohl is a great guy and what is my problem, etc., etc, I would ask you to slow down, take a deep breath and actually read the article or if you have read it (maybe a little quickly), read it again until you are in on the joke. Then we can all be friends.
